Which Apple Mac have you got?

There are so many types of Apple Mac hardware that it can be hard to know exactly which one you have. Just saying you have a MacBook Pro isn’t any help as there are several versions of the hardware which have different connectors and options. Some have DVD drives for instances and some older Macs have Firewire 400 and 800 ports.

So to find out your exact model you can do the following:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left of your screen
  2. Select “About This Mac”
  3. A dialogue box appears – now click the “More info…” button within that box
  4. Another box appears giving you the exact name and year of model under the “Overview” tab (see screenshot below)

For Mac OX 10.10 (Yosemite) the model is on the first screen after click “About this Mac”.

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left of your screen
  2. Select “About This Mac”
  3. a dialogue box appears giving you the exact name and model year under the “Overview” tab (see screenshot below)
